I had always been tempted by one of these by the adverts on tv but wary of spending much on another bit of plastic to take up space in my kitchen. I decided to get one off ebay to try, paid about £7 so figured not much of a risk. When it came it was obviously not a genius one but a cheaper brand which I was expecting for the price but gave it a go and for about 2/3 weeks it was great and I thought I'd got myself a real bargain. Then the blades began to tarnish a bit and finally on the the blades bent on a potato and it was useless. I had had so much fun with it tho and used it so much more than I expected to that when I was at the ideal home show where there was a stall selling the genuine article for £20 I decided it was worth another go. The real deal one is so much better than the ebay knock off. I have had it a year now and use it at least 3/4 times a week on quite hard things like butternut squash and carrots and it's great. The pots it comes with are really useful and it comes into 3 bits to go in the dishwasher. The ebay one used to get food caught on the chopping surface that was hard to dig out but because my real one all comes to bits there is nowhere for food to get caught.
I suspect a lot of the bad reviews for nicer dicers come from people who for some reason have ended up with a cheap copy rather then the jml branded one. It comes with a 5 year guarantee so definitely worth the risk I would say if you are tempted by the idea but get it from a reputable dealer.
