My 4 yr old boy is very tough on his toys and has been obsessed with torches for about a year. He wanted one of these for christmas last year and I was wary of spending £20 on what I thought was basically a torch that would prob break within 2 weeks just like every other torch I have bought him. In the end he got some money from a relative so I got it for him.
You plug in the base and then this is where you need to leave the torch when not in use so it charges up. It comes with about 3 plastic projector inserts that you slide in front of the light. There is a spider, a spiders web and something else. We have lost these now but they were actually really cool to play with when we first got it and my then 3 year old son spent ages up in his room in the dark making scary shapes. Without the insert tho it's just a normal torch tho a fairly powerful one. As soon as you pop it on to the base the whole inside of the torch lights up and so it can act as a night light. It's not that bright and a kind of bluey glow but my kids sleep better in the dark anyhow and it's bright enough for him to see what he's doing to get to the toilet and not so bright that he stay up playing all night.
We are coming up to a year of having this now and it's still used every night as a night light and quite often as a toy when friends come round. They all seem to love it. I am sure now I have written this review of how durable it is that it will break but 10 months with my rough and tumble boy is fairly impressive for a plastic toy so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
